ADVISORY: Food Bank of the RGV to Host Groundbreaking Ceremony
***Thursday, July 11 at 10am***
PHARR, TEXAS – On Thursday, July 11 at 10 a.m., the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley (FBRGV) will host a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off construction on the food bank’s new Produce Resource Center.
“The new Produce Resource Center will house a cooler, freezer, and operations area and will allow the Food Bank of the RGV to serve more community members with healthy produce options,” said Libby Saenz, CEO of FBRGV. “We are grateful for the generous support from the Adam R. Scripps Foundation, which made construction of this new building possible.”
Produce sourced in the Rio Grande Valley is distributed statewide by the Collaborative for Fresh Produce, which serves 20 food banks in the Feeding Texas network and dozens more across the Feeding America network of food banks. Through this collaboration, 75 million pounds of nutritious fresh produce are distributed annually, reaching over 4 million hungry Texans.
Adam Scripps lived a life of humble generosity. The family-run Adam R. Scripps Foundation, established posthumously in 2023, allocates millions annually to Scripps’ cherished causes like animal welfare and community development, with grants overseen by his relatives to honor his legacy. In 2023, the Foundation donated $900,000 to support FBRGV’s new Produce Rescue Center, which will enable CFP and the Food Bank of the RGV to double the amount of fresh produce distributed to food insecure Texans.
“As a family-run Foundation, we strive to make grants that create meaningful change for people and communities,” said Alex Bakkum, Chief Philanthropy Officer at the Adam R. Scripps Foundation. “It is our privilege to support organizations, like Feeding Texas, that are committed to improving lives and ending food insecurity for children and families.”
