Crisis Response
Our network of food banks reaches every county in Texas, making Feeding Texas uniquely prepared to serve as a central point of contact for information, resources, and donations in the event of a crisis. Our role is to respond swiftly and effectively to natural and manmade disasters and support the long-term recovery of the communities disrupted by those events.
Response
When a disaster strikes, our food banks are on the front lines feeding those in need. Feeding Texas serves as a hub for the network, helping to improve the flow of goods through the supply chain, collecting and disseminating information, managing funds and food donations, and providing operational support to food banks. We also work with federal, state, and local officials to deliver additional food aid, coordinate, and maximize the impact of our food banks in the recovery zone.
Preparedness
Our work to respond to disasters happens well before a crisis begins. The Feeding Texas network and our team consistently collaborate to establish plans and best practices for crisis preparedness. From providing technical assistance to streamlining crisis communications, we work year-long to ensure food banks are ready to go when crises hit.
We maintain consistent relationships with the Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM), Texas VOAD, FEMA and other partners outside of our food bank network. This ensures that when disaster strikes, we have strong relationships in place that can be leveraged to better optimize response efforts.
Recovery
Feeding Texas makes long-term disaster recovery efforts possible by helping to reimburse and replenish depleted food supplies, meet the increased demand for supplies and services that continue long after a disaster strikes, and prepare for the next disaster by building food bank capacity to respond.
Gulf Coast Regional Disaster Collaborative
Together with Feeding America, we’ve created the Gulf Coast Regional Disaster Collaborative – a group of Feeding America state associations and food banks that collaborates on streamlined plans for communication, resource sharing, and other collaboration across the Gulf Coast during times of disaster. The group includes Feeding Louisiana, Feeding the Gulf Coast, Feeding Alabama, Feeding Florida, and other larger food banks such as the Mississippi Food Network and Houston Food Bank.
